Introducing...Gibson Freedman

February 12, 2020

Gibson Freedman is the voice of our weekday Drivetime show on Beyond Radio.

But did you know that earlier in his professional career, Gibson worked as a miner, assisted on thousands of operations at local hospitals, and was a club DJ everywhere from Warton Grange to Magaluf?

Gibson was featured in the first part of our new series 'Team Talk' where our team of Beyond Radio volunteers reveal the secrets of their fascinating lives away from the studio.

Born in Maryport in 1947, Gibson worked down the pits as a miner, then got into nursing and moved to Morecambe.

He worked as a theatre nurse at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and other local hospitals for more than 40 years before retiring at the age of 72.

In his spare time during the '70s, '80s and '90s, he worked as a DJ at clubs, hotels and venues all over Lancaster, Morecambe and the Lake District.

One of his DJing inspirations was Tony Prince, a well-known presenter on popular commercial radio station Radio Luxembourg.

You can hear the full interview with Gibson in the second hour of last night's The Resident with Greg Lambert show on Beyond Radio here

And you can hear Gibson most weekdays on Drivetime on Beyond Radio from 3pm to 6pm.
