Body found in river in hunt for missing Lancaster woman

A body discovered in the River Lune is understood to be that of missing Lancaster woman, Shannon Canning.

Police were called to the stretch of the river near Halton at around 4:20pm (May 24), to a report of the discovery.

Specialist search teams have subsequently attended the area and have now sadly confirmed that the body of a woman has been recovered.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, police believe the body to be that of missing Shannon Canning.

Shannon’s family have been made aware of the development.

Shannon, 24, hadn’t been seen since the early hours of Friday morning (May 19) when she left her home address in Keswick Court, Lancaster.

She didn’t arrive for work at Tipple bar in Lancaster city centre, where she was due to open up the bar on the afternoon of May 19.

A post on the Tipple Facebook page this evening said: "We are aware of the recent news regarding our colleague and friend, Shannon Canning.

"Tipple will be closed tonight and for the foreseeable.

"We kindly ask that you do not message us, comment, or post on our page regarding Shannon for the time being. We ask that you allow us some privacy and give us space to process everything.

"Our thoughts are with Shannon's family at this awful time.

"Thank you for understanding."
