New Lancaster flats development planned for former dental surgery

A residential flats development is being planned at a former dental surgery in Lancaster city centre.

A developer has applied to Lancaster City Council for prior approval for the change of use of Mayo House on the corner of Dallas Road and Meeting House Lane into 15 one-bedroom residential studios.

Previous occupiers MyDentist moved out of the building and opened a new premises in St Nic's Arcades shopping centre in Lancaster last year.

A planning statement by HPA Chartered Architects, submitted to the council, said "the proposal has been designed in such a way to retain the external appearance of the existing building".

It says: "This application notifies the Local Planning Authority of the applicants’ intention to convert an existing, redundant dental practice which falls under Use Class E (commercial, business and service) to 15 one-bedroom residential studios, which fall within Use Class C3 (dwelling houses)."

The application to the council is to determine if prior approval is required for the proposal.
