Homes were evacuated and roads closed after a suspicious package was found in Heysham.

The package was discovered at a property on Banks Crescent earlier today (Monday) and a cordon was put around the address.

The Explosives Ordnance Department was called out and a controlled explosion was carried out before people were allowed to return to their homes.

Chief Inspector Chris Hardy said earlier today: “We have evacuated a number of properties as a precautionary measure but there is not believed to be any immediate threat."
