Mayor of Lancaster launches kids poetry competition

January 07, 2020

The Mayor of Lancaster is asking local children to put pen to paper to help find his Young Poet Laureates of the year.

Councillor David Whitaker is asking budding young writers to write an original poem of no more than 40 lines - with a chance to win a mayoral reception and tour of Lancaster Town Hall.

The theme is 'Unity in the Community' - how we can make our communities stronger, more tolerant and show respect for each other.

There are two categories: Junior Poet Laureate (up to age 11) and Young Poet Laureate (12-16).

Local poet Bryan Griffin is available to visit local schools to talk about poetry and help the children with their poems.
