Morecambe FC appoints new manager

November 07, 2019

Morecambe Football Club has announced the appointment of a new manager.

Derek Adams will take over at the Globe Arena following the departure last month of long-time boss Jim Bentley.

Adams has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Shrimps.

The Scot is the former manager of Ross County and Plymouth Argyle.

A club spokesman said Adams had "a proven track record and excellent reputation in the game".

The 44-year-old played professionally for six clubs, including Ross County and Motherwell.

As a manager he guided Ross County to promotion from the Scottish Second Division and to the Scottish Cup Final, and won the Scottish First Division Title with them during his second spell at the club - when he was voted PFA Scotland Manager of the Year for 2011/12. He later guided Plymouth Argyle to the League 2 Play-Off Final at Wembley for the first time in 20 years, and then the following season to promotion to League One. He left Argyle earlier this year.

Adams will be at Morecambe’s FA Cup tie with Blackpool on Saturday but Kevin Ellison and Barry Roche will continue in their current role as caretaker managers on the day.
