Morecambe fitness trainer's year-long Cha Cha challenge ends in style

January 02, 2020

A fitness trainer has succeeded in his quest to raise £20,000 for CancerCare by performing an exercise routine to a famous song every single day of the year.

Steve Cody's Cha Cha Plank Charity Challenge ended at Williamson Park in a carnival atmosphere on New Year's Eve.

A huge crowd of people joined in Steve's final routine to the number one hit 'Cha Cha Slide' by DJ Casper and then did the conga in front of the Ashton Memorial in celebration.

The personal trainer performed the dance every single day of 2019 at many different public and private events; even doing his penultimate routine at the Beyond Radio studio on December 30.

Steve was inspired to carry out his 365-day challenge after his sister had stage 3 breast cancer and was supported by CancerCare in Lancaster.

He aimed to raise £20,000 during the year and said he'd achieved thanks to more than £19,500 pledged through his Justgiving page, plus additional donations and a potential match-funder.

Steve performed the Cha Cha Plank at Morecambe Carnival, the Midland Hotel, at schools, businesses, on the Lancaster ice rink and even in a bullring in Spain!

He did the routine with members of the 23rd Parachute Engineer Regiment of the British Army, Morecambe lifeboat crew, fire fighters aznd even alongside the meerkats in Williamson Park!

Steve's work earned him a nomination for the JustGiving Creative Fundraiser of the Year award.
